Mine holds the channel through power on and off.  I
have an additional setable option on units that allows
us to ignore other traffic on the channel.  Speaker
stays quiet unless the traffic is from your equipment.
 Looks like its some type of sideband setting.  

One other feature I have is a recharagble battery and
charger holder.  Allows me to drop the entire unit
into the charger without pulling out the battery. 
Charger can handle up to two units at a time.  

Picked these up at Sam's Club last year for about $50
a pair.  I think the units carried the Southwestern
Bell name.
