Alice,

You are courting disaster.  It's okay to leave the grey tank open and running 
into the sewer, but NOT the black tank...Trust me *all* the waste isn't going 
down.  You are no doubt getting a "black pyramid"  What's happening is the 
liquids (pee and flush water) are going out but the solids are not.  The 
reason it's recommended that you let your black tank get at least 3/4 full is 
because the liquids and the solids live together making 1. the solids more 
liquid and 2. They all go out together when the black tank valve is opened.

I suggest you close up the black tank valve for at least a week and dump some 
bacteria in there to try to soften and liquify what's probably a rock hard 
mess.

Bottom line, you know what attracts flies and you've got a tank full of it.

That would be my guess.
