Re: [A/S] zip dee awning

Richard,

You have a major task ahead of you. Even after getting fabric off the coach,
getting the fabric separated from the metal awning wrap is no little feat.

To remove the fabric from the patio awning you must do the following:
Open the awning fully without setting the secondary(inner) rafter arm.
Either set the Z lock at the front or have someone hold the awning
extended..
At the left or rear arm disconnect the lower pivot bolt and remove the lower
portion of the secondary rafter arm. This will leave you with an approximate
4' lever arm to control unwind the torsion spring. Carefully controlling the
arm, allow it to unwind with the spring tension taking care to count the
number of winds until the spring relaxes. Replace the lower portion of the
arm and remount it to the lower pivot anchor.
At the front of the awning unlock the Z lock and unbolt the main rafter arm
from the head. Drill the rivets holding the head on the awning tube.
Remove the fabric rivets holding the fabric on the tube.
At both ends of the first slat of the metal wrap remove the Phillips screws
holding the 2nd and 3rd slat together. With two people controlling the tube
with fabric and two controlling the 2nd slat taking great care to control
the fabric/1st slat, remove the 2nd slat. You can now slide the fabric/1st
slat off the tube.
With the fabric/1st slat laid out on a large clean surface. Using a pry tool
of your choice open up each crimp holding the fabric welt in the 1st slat.
There is typically a crimp ever 12-18" along the slat. Take care not to tear
the fabric while doing this.
To reinstall, reverse the process taking great care not to damage the outer
surface of the 1st slat while recrimping the fabric
Be sure to wind the torsion spring reversed from the way it unwound and add
one to the count while rewinding the torsion spring.
The fabric rivets and the rivets used are specific type we only purchase
from Zip Dee.

PS When we replace fabric we order it with the 1st slat already mounted.
