Jack, I've been caught a couple of times with a dead trailer battery and each 
time I had plenty of current to operate lights, etc. in the trailer when I 
plugged into the tow vehicle.  Maybe some others on the list will chime in 
with their experience.

I'm on my second battery in my 1999 Safari.  The first battery wouldn't hold 
a charge shortly after I bought the trailer.
