Patty,

The "no chlorine" because chlorine will ruin rubber or other type seals if
left in contact.  I've used mixed chlorine and water in spray bottles for
easy cleaning BUT I always empty out and then wash the bottle and sprayer
before storing it.

In my *haste* to answer this question I was "assuming" that the bugs were a
temporary situation and they would be quickly dispatched with a blast of
chlorine gas.

I also doubt that these multi-colored flies are actually fruit flies unless
there is a way for them to hatch.  Fruit flies lay eggs in the skin of
fruit, mainly citrus as far as I know.  Unless someone is prone to raising a
crop of fruit trees in the commode there would never be any fruit flies
there.

On second thought, tomato seeds retreived from septic tanks in yards WILL
still bear fruit.  And tomatoes *are* actually fruit, are they not? ;)

How about using less Italian style whole tomato sauce in favor of tomato
paste? ;)
