Kenny - Bacteria can certainly enter into any open well and cause
bacteria to grow & give off the resulting smell. Your county agent would
probably like nothing better than to know about any uncapped wells in
his area. You should call him. All sorts of contaminants could be
introduced into the water bearing formation that could then contaminate
your well.
