I have towed with several Durango's and have been quite impressed 
with how well they perform.  

The 4.7 Litre Engine is a very good combination of power and economy 
in an SUV.  The 4.7 is only 3 seconds slower 0-60 towing a 30' 
Airstream than the 5.9 but will give 4-6 MPG better fuel economy. It 
is also a much quieter and smoother engine. 

The Durango has a short overhang which nicely compensates for the 
shorter wheel base and the center of gravity is fairly low.  The off 
road suspension package gives it 8" wide wheel rims and Load 
range "C" Light Truck tires though a bit large as they are 30x10.5". 
Still they are much better than the 255 and Larger passenger tires 
standard on most other SUV's.  The "RT" model has a great tire and 
wheel combination but unfortunately is only available with the 5.9 
Litre engine. 

Other than some of the more modern SUV's with independent rear 
suspension it is the most stable SUV available.

We have 32 customers towing with them and about the only complaint I 
have heard is that the ride is a little stiff.  

A Durango with a properly set up equalizing hitch and sway controls 
or better yet a Hensley can easily handle a Safari any where there is 
a road and likely some places where there isn't.
