I have only stayed in private campgrounds a couple of times in my travels.
And I've never had any problems or felt uncomfortable. I stay in Forest
Service Campgrounds, National and State Parks, Corps of Engineers, strange
little city and county parks, etc. Most of the larger public campgrounds
have camp hosts who are very conscientious about keeping things quiet and
clean. The spaces tend to be much larger and more private, and I simply
couldn't afford to travel much if I always stayed in private campgrounds.
