Re: [A/S] dump valve - 67 Caravel

I am not sure the year matters much - I think they have used the same valve
for a LONG time now. As I remember the cost, it was more like $10 - 12 for
the slide assembly, which has all the operating guts in it. This is a
common part and any RV store should have it.

I have done this a couple of times. No big deal either time, but it takes
awhile to figure out just how to get to it, and it is awkward working in a
tight place (and it WILL be a tight place).

The slide assembly is held with 4 bolts. You pry the pieces apart a bit to
remove the old piece and and slide the new assembly in and bolt it back
together. On one I did, I had to adapt the pull handle to use it with my
pre-existing pull extension.

I think there are two common sizes - if so, you might want to get both
with the understanding that you can return the unused one.

One tip - make the acess hole big and don't remove the cutout part
completely - only cut 3 sides of the square and bend it down and away for
access. When done, bend it back in place, pushing it past the hole. Place a
thin bar inside across the opening and let the cutout push "against" the
bar to keep it aligned with the panel - you will understand when you
actually do this.
