Hi - my LP detector did the same thing twice.
Both times I had put plastic runners down on
the carpet. The detector, I think, kind of
knows it's not a gas leak but it also knows,
because of chemicals put off by "whatever", 
that it can't detect a real leak. 

To reset, hold the test button in for
"a long time". I guess about 10-15 seconds.
This resets mine.
