Chris,

When I bought my hitch I specified it for the heaviest load I knew I would haul so it is 1,000 lb rated. By typical hitch spec's it is too heavy for my Argosy. The folks at Equal-i-zer said it would work
and my experience so far has been the setup works just fine with lighter loads. I would not modify the hitch. Go with what you have as it is.
