Re: [A/S] 66 Ambassador AC wiring

Your coach is indeed prewired, but not to the front vent opening. The factory
installed wiring is located 137" back along the ceiling from the #1 rib. This may or
may not be in a vent. The #1 rib is located at the joint between the front curved end
and the ceiling sheets. The #1 rib as seen from the outside is that point were the
front end segments are joined to the side sheets.
You will have to remove the breaker box cover to determine if there is an AC breaker
installed. You may also find the prewired in the box.
It would be particularly inadvisable to use aluminum wiring for a high demand circuit
like an air conditioner. It was the heat generated by high current draws that caused
the problem with loosened connections. An old timer electrician will remember the
original fix which involved adding a pigtail of copper at the end of the wire run.
It would be very difficult to pull new wiring as the wire is anchored to the interior
of the wall when it was installed.
