GO FOR IT.
I often have some who question putting $12,000 into an "old" pickup. 
I would do it again. Many reasons... 1st= The truck's age "fits" with 
the era of our A/S. 2nd=from my salad days in school, ANYTHING less 
than the $28,000 plus for a new hauler is LESS(the smell of a burning 
clutch didnt work, or begging/pleading/pandering, etc).  3rd= 
reliability isnt an issue... this truck is driven daily and is 
reliable(never left me/us stranded in over 75,000 refurbished miles). 
And I could go on.
There are enthusiasts who do this work as professionally as one could 
expect from a dealer. Our truck was done in Reno, Nevada(lots of 
restorers there).Personally, I think they do a better job... 
certainly at a better price. I'm not sure a dealer would take on a 
project like this anyway... they want that $28,000 +... thats how 
they stay in business.
