Re: [A/S] spare tire carrier

B.J.

I have a 27' Ambassador(1978). I recently had a spare tire bracket installed
at Parkview in Delaware. Let me say first, that Parkview has an honest group
of folks in Symrna. The kit for this ad-on comes from Airstream. When I came
back to pick up the Airstream, this 73 year old man asked for a creeper to
roll under the trailer. I wanted to see how the spare tire was installed.
What I saw , appeared as though I could restrieve the tire if I needed to use
it. My problem however, was that I notice a gap of approximately 1 1/2"
running along each side of the tire bracket(between the floor and the frame
bracket). I could reach in an pull out insulation. They told me that they
had done hundreds of these installations. This is how they all were done.
They were kind enough to humor this old man. They closed the gap on each
side. I did not want water or critters to get into this area. As I drove
away with my prize possession, I wondered what was happening to all those
other Airstreams running around the country. Was I to critical, or do they
now have critters and water on board?

*Note - this unit is installed under the front end of your Airstream. A pin
is removed and the tire swings down when you need it.
