When you are in say a Radio Shack store look at the length of a handheld
CB's flex or metal extendable antenna and compare it with an amateur or an
FRS radio.  Antennas are a fraction of the frequency used.  The usual
antenna on handheld CBs is a pain to use.  One way to get around this is to
make sure the unit can be plugged in to an exterior antenna.  I sure like
the FRS radios used by some of my ballooning friends.
