Personally they key is the load range of the tires. 
Consider the weight of your vehicle plus passengers,
cargo and the weight gained by your hookup.  Normally
the tires originally supplied by the manufacturer are
rated to carry up to the GVW rating of the vehicle.  

I am pulling my Safari with the stock Michellan tires
that GM supplies on a Chevy Express Van.  Same size as
your tires only on a 15 inch wheel.  They are more
than adequate.  Don't get into a case of overkill on
this.  You already see the ramifications based on what
you bought.  More doesn't always mean better.
