Re: [A/S] Ford Econoline Towing Mirrors
Hunter & Kevin,
Those are the electric retractable mirrors. I don't know what C.W.
might have for the Econoline, but they have some really nice mirrors for
the Dodge to replace the stock NON-electric jobs. They look nearly
identical, but don't have the convex one for the RH side, both are
non-magifying. You loosen a setscrew to slide the mirror out about 4-5",
then retighten it. I found 2 things about the socket-head setscrew:
It's some sort of bastard size hex, the included Allen wrench doesn't
fit it well, nor do either metric or American Allen wrenches. HOWEVER,
it's 1/4-20 thread, so I replaced mine with new ones from the hardware
store. To make it easy to use, I cut off a screwdriver, drilled a hole
endwise into the shank, and soldered in a 1/8" Allen wrench. That gives
me a "screwdriver" with a hex end.
Keeping the "screwdriver" behind the seat, it's just seconds to move the
mirrors out or in for towing or not.
If I'd already had electric mirrors on the Dodge, I might have sprung
for the power retractables.
