Jack,

The heat strips I have used are, as you said, not controlled by a thermostat
but I have found that with a little experimentation, I can set the rotary
heat knob at a particular point and, maybe after a little tweaking, can
maintain the desired temp overnight.  Of course the following day, as the
sun warms everything up, I have to rotate the knob counter-clockwise to
reduce the heat output.
