Parsimony is where it's at.

I have nineteen three inch computer cooling fans.  When they all are turned
on they draw a little over three amps.  I use them when traveling in the
summer months to promote air flow.  There are two full awnings on my A/S
these fans move shaded air through out the trailer.  When ever I am parked
without connections I don't have to use the air conditioner to have air
circulation.  I do not travel into snow areas.  I also have a catalytic
heater and sometimes hook it up in the winter months if I need to try and
conserve electricity.  Should the temperature go near freezing I bite the
bullet and use the Suburban forced air heater to insure that the water pipes
do not freeze.

I can switch the dc muffin fans to run in either direction so they will
generally push air in the direction the air wants to flow. Something like
street side in curb side out.  This method keeps the fans from making a
roaring sound trying to buck mother-nature.  The front and back windows have
three the other windows have two except the center bath has one fan. They
are slim enough that they stay in the windows even when shut.

I will be adding two more 100W solar panels in the next month or so. With
the additional panels and a total of four group 27 marine batteries I
believe I will have the capacity to get by five or six dark days.  To me a
dark day is a cloudy day that will not allow the panels to fully charge all
day.

I plan on retiring again :<) this time for real.  I plan to travel to places
with no hookups at all.

I have to install only three more fluorescent fixtures to have that project
complete.  They draw 1.6 amps each versus the three to five amps each
incandescent fixture consumed.

Presently I have two old UPS's (Universal Power Supplies) retired from
computer backup.  One is 250 the other is 450 W 110 V AC.  The internal
batteries have been removed and they are connected directly (fused) to the
marine batteries.  They supply the AC necessary to operate the television
dish,  a TV, a VCR, and laptop computer with printer and scanner.  After the
addition of the two solar panels I plan on adding a Trace UX112BU or
UX1412BU inverter / charger. I will be able to retire the junk UPS's for a
real power supply.

There is also one muffin fan installed on its own solar panel 12"x12" that
cools the area behind the refrigerator.  This fan only runs during the day
when the sun shines on the curb side.  This was the first one installed.  I
placed this fan the first summer after I purchased this A/S in July '98.
This fan allowed the refrigerator to freeze lettuce.  Before the
installation it would sour milk over night.  The temperature in the box went
from forty five to below thirty degrees just by adding the air flow over the
coils behind the refrigerator.
