[A/S] DC/AC inverters

Whall Dick, you are correct in this, but for we who are electrically
challenged and do not know someone who can help with this the
following becomes true:

1. My laptop uses 8V DC which means that 12V is too much, and the DC
adapter for this unit is $169 US. Not knowing how to manufacture an
adapter for this purpose, I would have to pay this ridiculous price.

2. A 150 Watt inverter costs about $35 US and a 300 watt perhaps $65
US, and having had an AC adapter included with the computer, an
inverter is all that is required to operate it.

3. An adapter for the GPS to plug into a cigarette lighter is $35 US
and an AC adapter came with it, and so it will also plug into an
inverter.

4. An AC TV and VCR, not being able to operate on DC with any type
of adapter except an inverter, become usable with one in the 300 watt
range.

Which all boils down to an inverter being the best choice for all
purposes intended, and being electrically challenged as I am, I
probably won't fry anything with this system. Laptops and GPSs are
expensive to replace if one applies excessive power, as I understand.

AND, you did state one reason in your question. The AC converters
normally come with the devices. Anyway, not knowing anyone elses
reasons, this covers mine. 8=)
