That would do it.  A battery is probably good for about 10 to 13 
continuous hours of furnace use in 40 degree or less weather.  So - 
your battery did about what it should have.  As far as charging when 
you are driving, if the power wire from the tow vehicle is connected, 
and the receive power wire of the trailer is also connected (both 
through the seven connector plug) a trickle charge will make it to 
the battery.  It will give about the same as a solar panel, and that 
is not really very much if you drive for four or five hours.  About 
ten minutes of using a trailer light will wipe that out.  I did 
discover something important when I hooked up the electric wiring of 
my Argosy to my standard wired tow vehicle.  The Continuous power 
wire of the trailer was in a different position of the plug from 
standard, and showed this position as correct in the Manual that came 
with the trailer.  I had to modify the positioning to get it to work 
the way it was designed.  SO - my suspicion is that older if not all 
airstreams and argosys are not wired to what is now considered 
standard, so be ready to swap some wires on the trailers plug when 
setting up for your electrical hookup to tow vehicle.  As I said, it 
may be because back in 1976 there was no set standard.
