[A/S] Watch that propane tank
Hi All,
this was a safety report that came from one of our sister plants in
the states. It just shows what a poor aluminum propane cylinder can
do. This was a 30lb tank the same as is used on TTs. I do not know how
they got it refilled, as here in my town no one will fill a tank that
is out of date.
-------------------
Here is a near miss that brings to light how dangerous compressed gas
can be...the tank had just been filled at the local LPG fill station
and the contractor had just taken it out of his pick-up truck and set
it down. As he was moving the truck back to the parking lot, the tank
ruptured striking the building, running up the side and deflecting off
the overhang. The tank ended up in the parking lot of the plant
located approximately 300 hundred yards away. The plant's maintenance
shop is located on the other side of the wall where the tank hit the
building. As you can see, this could have ended much differently....
Another area to look at when contractors are in your plant in terms of
their care and maintenance of compressed gas bottles they use. This
type of bottle needs re-certified every 12 years. The last check date
on the tank was 1979.
