[A/S] Re: Running gear balance

Automobile and light truck hub and drums are balanced
to be not more than 1/4 ounce out of balance.
Not a single RV manufacture uses balanced hub and
drums, not even Airstream. The "why not" is easy. They
are not available. Therefore the hub and drum "must"
be balanced with the tire and wheel. A new hub and
drum assembly can and very often is "out of balance"
usually at least 8 ounces and can go as high as 3
pounds. To tow any trailer, let alone an Airstream,
without balancing the "complete" assembly, will result
in some type of failures with the trailer. Physics,
says so. Some people say it doesn't matter, but if
they ever sat in their trailer while it was being
towed 60 to 70 mph, they would change their opinion,
in less time than it takes Santa to say, "Merry
Christmas". Max
