The PowerStroke develops its horsepower at a lower RPM range than the
gassers do. Therefore, to keep the diesel within its optimum power band, it
is much more preferable to get the 3.73:1 drive ratio, keeping the engine
turning slower, than to go any higher. You just won't get any performance
advantage with 4:10 gears. Using a diesel to tow an Airstream, go with the
tallest axle.
