Thanks Jim(s), Lawrence, bobb, Hunter, Charlie, Frank and others who replied.

Now my face is really red. I hadn't gotten online since I posted that 
request. Once I read the replies and read them to Tom we realized that Stuart 
(the seller) must have meant $14,000 (&$13,000 to us) when he said fourteen 
hundred.  We know he said hundred not thousand because we both heard it and 
that's why our ears perked up.

$14,000 is the only thing that makes sense since he said it was double book 
value.  We figure that because we had been talking computers that sell for 
hundreds is why he made that mistake. You know how you say one thing when you 
mean another and will swear that you said the correct word?  If we had been 
looking at trucks and had known prices we would probably have questioned him 
on the price and not been spinning our wheels about it.  

Now - if I call him tomorrow and it is only $1300. and he hasn't sold it we 
will be th owners of a 'new' tow machine.
