[A/S] Family & Fulltiming
I started telling about our Pahrump experience and was well into telling about
our flying plans when I decided it would be good to start a separate message to
share with Airstreamers that it 'is' possible to spend time with your families
'back home' while across the U.S.A. traveling and fulltiming. And you can do
it without driving that rig all the way back to wherever home was...
We left Pahrump, NV this a.m. and headed for Phoenix (where we will fly out of
their airport on Monday for Michigan Thanksgiving with daughter and family).
Once we were past Las Vegas and south of Henderson we discovered the most direct
route is across Hoover Dam. We were surprised to find that the Dam is still
closed to all traffic but passenger vehicles and utility trailers. Oh well, we're
happy they are still being cautious and we have til Sunday to be in Phoenix.
We are leaving our A/S at RV friends' home in Apache Junction, driving to 'Sleep
Inn' hotel to take advantage of 'Park and Fly' deal for $59 or $69. We'll spend
the night at hotel, use their transportation service to the airport, and best of
all be able to leave our truck in their parking lot for up to 2 weeks free of charge
(airport long term parking was $15 per day).
We think we're going to try doing something like that next April or May. We want to
go to Alaska early to have a long enough trip. But our younger daughter is getting
married back East and we must be in Boston through til June 1 or 2. So-o-o.. we'll
be looking into flights from Seattle or maybe even Canada if the price were right.
Our cost for this week's trip from PHX to Detroit is $167+ hdlg each. Last May I was
able to fly from Colorado to Boston for $198. We're actually doing more flying than
when we were in that four letter word "W" life - who would'a thunk!!
