The blue vinyl trim insert actually is held at top and bottom of the trim 
strip with a small edge that slips under an opening or depression in the 
metal trim.  Us a knife blade to insert either at the top or bottom of 
vinyl and pull outward and the traim will come out easily.  Find the end 
of the vinly insert closest to your problem and you may find the trim has 
a small metal strip with a rivet in it.  Drill this out and then you can 
pull the vinly insert free.  Remove as much of the vinyl as you wish.  
Incidentally when repair is complete you can reinsert the vinly by 
placing the bottom in the metal trim and with a slight pressure at top 
pop the top edge into the tirm.

The metal trim piece is held to the trailer by pop rivets and should be 
evident and need to be drilled out if it is necessary to remove the vinyl 
trim.  In most cases this metal trim is only covering up the joint where 
side  skin panels and bottom skin panels meet.  In some cases if you have 
a leak or water getting into trailer by running under the metal trim you 
can solve your problem by sealing the upper edge of metal trim with 
something like Alcoa Aluminum Gutter Seal.   Don't use silcone as it will 
loose it's adhesion to aluminum and will also gather dirt on look 
unsightly after a few months.
