The khaki green was probably alodine - a chemical coating/reaction with
aluminum.  Anodizing is an electrochemical process which creates an aluminum
oxide coating on the surface - very hard. it would only be practical on
sheets of aluminum prior to assembly, as the metal has to be imersed in a
chemical bath.  Clear anodized aluminum is silvery white.  It is then dyed
to the color (as done with Mag-Lite flashlights).
