Just to clarify, When you are hooked up to a sewer and will be for a few days 
you might want to open the GREY valve (making sure there is some water in all 
the P traps inside the trailer).  The reason is you can shower, wash dishes 
etc and not worry about over filling the grey holding tank.  Then when you 
know you are going to leave soon, shut the grey valve and shower, wash dishes 
again .... fill up the grey tank a bit..... 

Then dump the black tank with a grey chaser.......    

Can't help you with the valve problem itself..... yuk......
