[A/S] Soot on side of trailer and very hot water.

Hi all,

I have an 89 25' Excella.  We purchased it used and just took it out for 
a weekend.  The water heater worked great.  But, when I went to 
disconnect from the hookups, I discovered a path of soot on the side of 
the trailer, up about 2 to 3 feet above the vent area of the water 
heater.  Is this normal?  Is it correctable?  What should I do?

The second question is that the water is really, really hot!  I could 
not find a water temperature adjustment.  Is there one?  If so, could 
someone instruct me where to find it?
