My next door neighbor at Port O'Call had a good solution for the age cracking 
on the level.  He cut the back (one side) off a short piece of gutter 
downspout.  He put Velcro on the piece of downspout and on the level.  While 
parked, he places the downspout over the level.  This keeps the sun off the 
plastic tube and should help on the life of the level.
