[A/S] another clear coat question

Hi
 I read a bit ago Charlie that you had some good luck in removing the clear 
coat with plain old Amonia. Well i just tried some on my 79 Sovereign with no 
luck at all. i put it on and waited for it to turn milky white..it did 
nothing at all. After a bit I wiped it off and it had no effect at all. I am 
using an Amonia soap solution strait from the bottle. Should I be using some 
industrial strenght product?If amonia does not work what should I use that I 
can do on my own? Thanks.
