[A/S] Re: Rude Dealer

Hi Tom,

I have no experience with Airstream or Thor warranty policies so this
is speculation but I suspect you may have run into the following
situation.

Some manufacturers adjust the dealer's profit margin when they sell a
new product to include a percentage to cover the labor for typical
warranty work. This saves the manufacturers the task and expense of
having to deal with warrranty claims, and works well when the product
is returned to the selling dealer for any warranty work. When the
product is taken to a dealer other then the selling dealer for
warranty work, that dealer will have to do the work without
compensation. For small, "quickie" repairs this is not a problem but
if the repairs are labor intensive, the "loss" to that dealer could
be substantial. That dealer also suffers a second "loss" in that,
while doing the warranty work, his staff and facility are not
available for work on products brought in by paying customers. The
only recourse the dealer has to minimize the losses is to assign the
lowest prority to that warranty work, taking the profitable work
first. The customer also loses in this situation in that the dealer
has no incentive to go the extra mile to keep a satisfied customer.

You might be better served to take your trailer back to the selling
dealer for service work.
