[A/S] Re: Motorhome vs Trailer thread

Hi folks.  I've been off the list for a while.

Skip, I have both a trailer and motorhome. I have a 69 Overlander and 
an 84 345.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages.  Overall, I 
prefer our vintage trailer for our "destination" camping vehicle.  
The classic AS trailers have windows that open wide to catch those 
faint breezes. It's low to the ground so is easy to get in and out.  
You get a better sense of camping yet have all the convenience of a 
RV with the very latest in "late sixties" modern convenience and 
style.  I am also pulling it with a newer truck, one less likely to 
break down and under mfg.'s warranty if it does.  The one pain is my 
trailer does not have a gray water tank.  I am stuck dealing with our 
big blue tank on wheels .. or getting full hook up on our overnight 
stays and having to hook up the sewer with every stop.

The MH can get hot with the solar gain that big windshield provides.  
However, it is also very convenient.  When driving cross country 
earlier this year, it was really nice to pull into a site for an over 
night stay and be mostly set up, level with jacks down before even 
opening the door. We are talking minutes here (3 or 4, not 20 – 30).  
It is extremely nice to have such convenience if it's storming.  
Another positive of the MH is having all the comforts of the RV 
available as you are cruising down the highway.  Fill the tank (ouch) 
in the morning and drive all day. Make sandwiches, grab a cold soda, 
watch movies, do home work, etc, all without stopping.  The tank 
capacity on the MH is (at least compared to my trailer) also nice.  I 
can travel for 2 – 3 days with out having to fill the water or dump 
the waste.

We bought the MH with the idea of selling the trailer.  After giving 
it a little thought on our "last" outing with the trailer, we decided 
we couldn't part with the it, and have used it most this summer.  At 
this point in my life, I'll probably be doing less camping for a 
while rather than more (I have a high school freshman and a sixth 
grader).  So we will probably end up selling the MH. As my daughter 
on occasion reminds me "you don't really need two of those things 
dad". I haven't quite made up my mind on that though. I spent so much 
time looking for this one.  In addition, I think the Airstream 
Classic Motorhomes are completely cool and still want to have one.
