Re: [A/S] Univolt

Thanks for the references, Jim. After reading your note below I thought
that perhaps I did not make myself clear in my comments. I was not
defending the old converters - I was discussing the difference berween
constant-voltage and other types of converters/chargers.

I read up on the inteli-power unit you mentioned at the camping world site:
(http://www.campingworld.com/browse/products/index.cfm?prodID=1768), and I
agree it looks like a winner, especially if you get the optional "Charge
Wizard gadget.

I went out to see what brand was used in my "91 Limited SE, but gave up
when I discovered it was very hard to get to. I remember seeing it one
time, and I know it is a switcher (the modern technology) rated at 55 amps.

Concerning the Univolt: 25-30 years ago, the ferroresonant regulator was
the very best consumer technology we had. My experience with them was OK
except for the capacitor failure I mentioned, but I know others had
different luck. And NONE of them was fun to listen to! Hmmmm.. There is no
reason to continue using them unless someone wanted to keep his Airstream
completely "stock".
