Hi

I agree, you do need a thermostat to allow the water to stay in the block 
long enough to pull heat out and then stay in the Radiator long enough to 
cool down. Also if an engine runs too cool, like in some cats like a Volvo, 
the fuel mixture is off because the car never gets hot enough as far as the 
"computer" is concerned.
I did add a bigger radiator, and an electric fan with a switch in side to 
turn on if and when the truck gets too warm.  I did install a 165 degree 
thermostat in mine.
