[A/S] White Blotches Remaining

Chuck & Lynn, Blair:

I believe you are seeing chalky colored aluminum patches where the original
clearcoat finish peeled and allowed the aluminum skin to oxidize. It is a
different color than the areas that remained protected by clearcoat. If the
entire skin surface was protected by clearcoat when you removed it, the
color differentiation may result from an earlier cycle of peeling,
oxidation, and recoating.

When the original factory finish on my '93 34' began failing, I was clueless
and ignored the problem for a couple of years. (That was when I was
concerned with earning a living and other things.) When I got around to
pursuing the problem, P&S Trailer Service in Helena, OH stripped and
recoated the trailer. Steve and Kevin explained that unless the oxidized
(unprotected) areas were polished to remove oxidation, the color difference
would show through the new clearcoat.
