When the hitch is installed you won't see the hitch ball, it sits over it 
permanently.

The hitch bar is the piece that goes from the receiver (bolted under the 
truck) to the hitch itself.

On the top photo you'll see the hitch and the square hole in front is where 
the other end of the hitch bar goes in.  The bar is actuallly lying on the 
ground to the left of the hitch, but it's hard to see.
