Wayne,
We have been looking for years for the ultimate
solution and short of a central vac we have not found
the perfect unit.  Our Safari with its vast expanse of
carpet pretty much put us into an upgrade state from
our old hand held dirt devil unit.  One of problems we
have found is that bag units always start smelling bad
after a few uses.  We decided to go bagless which was
our beginning starting point.  We also wanted a beater
bar and we wanted something light.  We found a fairly
good compromise with what I think is an upright Dirt
Devil (Patty help me out if I'm wrong here).  Its a
very light upright vac and when camped we keep it in
one of the large closets.  It doesn't take up a lot of
room so we can still hang clothes without touching the
vac.  When we travel we lay it down flat on the floor
between the twin back beds. I don't belive it weighs
more than 10 lbs (probably less).  We either bought it
from WalMart or Target and I don't believe it was much
more than $60.  I'll check for the model tonight once
I get home.
