The LP tank manufacturers actually took the gauge off the valve some 
time ago. The gauge is now mounted off to the side. There is one version 
of the OPD valve that doesn't use a float, rather it uses a check ball 
so the intrusion into the tank is about 4" long
and 1/2" around. The gauge float is mounted off to the side. It works.
