Someone mentioned locking hitch-pins... i've been using them for years. they
even make 'keyed-alike' sets of locking pins for receiver and coupler...
with a little checking around, i've managed to collect a set of locking
hitch-pins for all types/sizes of receiver and coupler which are now all
keyed alike.

I always leave the trailer's coupler locked in the closed position when i'm
away from it. You may recall that i've had a trailer towed away, never to be
seen again....
