Jon,

I have 107,000 miles on my 91, the eng. is still fine and 91 was not G.M.'s
best year, but if you maintain the eng. properly (preferable use some of
racing coolants), heat was the main problem.  The transmission was the main
cause of failure. Just replaced mine and added a larger aluminum finned
transmission pan.

P.S. The 98, 454 Vortec runs very cool under load.
