Ok again my two cents worth. Avoid the 454 at all costs. I know there are 
some Chevy fans out there. My first car was a 64 Impala. I love a lot of 
Chevys. The 454"rat motor" has many problems I have seen in my years as a 
mechanic. 
As for gas mileage, both use quite a bit. One friend has an early 90's Ford 
F250 with the 460. He pulls a 26' layton. He gets about 10-12 MPG.
