[A/S] Dodge 1500 with 318 and tow package.

Help!  I need some advice.  I have been looking at a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with 
a tow package and the 318 engine (5.4L).  According to the manual, this truck 
can tow 8100 lbs with any of the three rear ends and an automatic 
transmission.  I would guess, based on performance, that this has the 3.9 
rear end.  Has anyone out there used this truck to tow with?  I have a 23 ft 
Safari and have been towing with a GMC van with the 350 engine.  This van 
does not have a tow package and has the 3.73 (or something like that) rear 
end.  I did add a transmission cooler.  Have had no problem towing with the 
GMC, but next year we are going out west and through the mountains.  I am 
concerned about towing with the van and thought I would get a truck (besides, 
I need a new toy).  I had been looking at the 5.7L GMC products and the 5.9 
Dodge products.  I never thought of the 318 as a possibility.  Any 
suggestions or recommendations will be appreciated.  I am looking for trucks 
from 1995 to 1998.  What should I be looking for in a Ford product?
