You are correct that the higher the humidity the less efficient an a/c unit 
is. I worked as an AC Techinician and Brake Technician for Chevron for about 
8 years. 
The only suggestion I could make is to put a larger BTU one on your safari. A 
15 - 20 degree difference is the norm. In dry areas like Vegas there will be 
a bit more than say Florida.
What is the BTU of your unit?
