Re: [A/S] trailer hitches/Speed Limits

Me too, usually.... but on this day... well here is the story as written in
my journal....

++++Cows. I imagine a cow doesn't have much to worry about, so finding an
opening in the fence and taking a stroll would seem like a nice diversion
from her usual humdrum life.

To me, getting on the road this morning and doing only 60 in a 70mph zone
seemed harmless enough too, so much so, and because there were no other
vehicles in front of me on the four lane highway I was looking left admiring
some Paint horses grazing in a field.

When I looked back up ahead I saw her, but my brain was having a problem
registering what I saw. I didn't realize at first.....She didn't realize
that 15,000 pounds of steel and aluminum, barrelling along at 60 miles an
hour, and her cow body, were on a collision course.

All I knew was it was big, black and on the right shoulder about to cross my
lane, and about a truck length ahead of me.

I swerved the rig to the left, like a skier on a slalom course, with inches
to spare, I quickly looked at the right side mirror to see if the trailer
would in fact, clear her too. It did, by no more than a foot, if that. She
was in the lane I had just left and pulled her head back as if to get it out
of the rush of wind that just blew by her.

She had no fear of cars, they are not natural enemies. I had no fear of
cows, they are not road hazards...at least they weren't until today.

I used the new CB and called for help and warned two oncoming 18 wheelers. A
local guy responded and was on the case. I watched in the side mirror as she
made it across the highway to the grass on the other side.

My next purchase will be a cowcatcher for the front of Bruiser.

Hunter, thankful I'm safe...in Livingston,TX ++++
