     My recollection is that this list (Hunter's "Airstream" list) is 
the original list, and is/was sponsored by the VAC.  Then, since some 
members wanted a more exclusively technically-oriented discussions, 
Tom Howarth and Pat Ewing started the VAC list.  So, yes, there is 
much overlap in membership, but Hunter's list ranges more widely than 
the VAC one.
