Joe, there's a saying - "No good deed goes unpunished". I've found he
who sticks his neck out is always getting it shot at by lurking snipers.
As for the power receptacle, one option is to use a weather tight
recessed 3-blade male receptacle and matching female end used for
hooking equipment up to large commercial portable generators. You have
to go to a real electric shop to find them, no Home Depot or Wal-Mart
need apply. There are 3 models to chose from at Oakland Motor and
Electrical Supply here locally. They are all 220v sized, and as such are
a little larger than the existing housing and requires enlarging the
opening a little.
Another interesting point is the original receptacle on our '57 Flying
Cloud is a flush female twistlock, and the matching cord was a double
ended male. I guess back in the fifties self-preservation and
common-sense was more prevalent...
