I regularly reset my on-board computer when I want fresh readings, such as
when going on a trip.  I have not actually computed mileage manually, but
the readings I am getting certainly agree with my usage and mileage over
long trips, and I have no reason to think that the readings are incorrect.
I suspect that the problems that Verna is experiencing are specific to her
on-board computer.
