The pump should prime fairly quickly, even if mounted above the tank.
However, the suction lines must have NO air leaks. If the hoses are old,
chances are real good that there are leaks, especially if you've had
them loose and reconnected them. Brand-new hoses are soft and pliable
and will seal when you tighten the clamps.
